Darryl “God” Whiting is sentenced to life in prison.

(Oct.) Whiting led the New York Boys, a 100-member gang that operated an estimated multi-million crack cocaine syndicate based in the Crown Social and Recreation Hall, a daycare and social service center, at 40 – 48 Geneva Avenue. The first person sentenced to life in prison without parole on drug charges in Massachusetts, he had also operated a daycare and social service center at 48 Geneva Avenue. A movie based on the case is released in 1999,* and a novel is published in 2013.*
